The paper Speeding up the GEOS-Chem High Performance CTM (GCHP version 14.7.1) through MPI load balancing co-authored with Daisy Wang, Jordan Sun, Kunal Agrawal, and Seb Eastham is now available on the EGUsphere preprint server
The paper is part of a collaboration with atmospheric scientists to improve the performance (reduce overall runtime) of a large-scale atmospheric simulation system, GEOS-Chem High Performance (GCHP) through better load-balancing on the large-scale distributed compute platforms on which the system typically runs. The solution that was developed improves overall runtime by more than 20% in most configurations and by over 40% in high-resolution configurations. It was formally incorporated in GEOS-Chem 14.7.1.
The work was supported by NSF grant CNS-2334507.
