• April 2026: My PhD student Jiaming Qiu successfully defended his dissertation

Congratulations to Jiaming Qiu who just defended his dissertation titled Benefits of Reprofiling for Delay Sensitive Networking.

The work explores when and how changing flows’ (deterministic) profiles can help packet networks guarantee their deadlines more efficiently (with less bandwidth). Jiaming’s thesis answered and developed solutions for this question under three progressively more complex schedulers, FIFO, static priority, and service curve earliest-deadline-first (SCED). He also developed a dynamic reprofiling (shaping) solution for FIFO networks under the assumption of periodic sources. The goal for this latter part was to activate reprofiling only when needed to minimize its impact on average delays.

Jiaming’s work was supported by NSF grant CNS-2006530 and a gift from Google.
