Observations
Addition of QoS extensions to OSPF was not an overly complex task
- Minor impact to topology database and LSA generation/reception process
- Some possible improvements, but benefits are unclear
LSA processing dominates overall overhead
- Use of coarse triggering policies and hold-down timers can reduce it substantially
- Increasing threshold from 10% to 80% yields order of magnitude reduction in cost
- Impacts tail of load distribution as well
Path pre-computation can be beneficial with coarse triggering policies
- Small performance hit even with large pre-computation periods
Bandwidth requirements of LSA are marginal
